This is a personal, largely spoiler free (or spoiler-vague) review of the fan-made scenario Wreck of the Albatross, part of the Mythos Deviations collection by The Beard for Arkham Horror the Card Game.
The Mythos Deviations are a collection of scenarios design to be added into the existing official campaigns. Wreck of the Albatross is designed to be played as part of the The Innsmouth Conspiracy, after The Vanishing of Elina Harper (2nd scenario), Devil Reef (4th scenario), or Horror in High Gear (5th scenario), or as a standalone scenario or side scenario as normal. In Wreck of the Albatross, investigators need to salvage a wrecked ship as a Deep One captain attempts to stop them.
Wreck of the Albatross's goal is to acquire keys from around the map, and then take them to the final goal. As you do, encounter cards will try to steal the keys from you, and having a deep one ship captain who travels around the map pick them up. This mechanical focus ends up not really playing out - while the captain moves around the map, he doesn't pose much of a threat - the cards that care about his presence are few, and the cards that steal the keys from you are fairly easy to deal with. It ends up feeling like a distraction that doesn't really matter - even if you do end up losing a key, it's just a quick skill test or two to put it back. The deep one captain is chasing you, but there's no feeling of danger or threat from him.
Besides that, Wreck of the Albatross is fairly standard - the hardest challenge in it is a 6 shroud location, which might end up being reduced if you get lucky with encounter cards. Nothing particularly new is done with the flood tokens or Deep Ones, leaving everything feeling a little flat.
With a 19 XP group, I found Wreck of the Albatross to be on the easy side, but potentially punishing along a horror axis. There's enough deep one enemies to be potentially threatening if you can't handle them, but the biggest enemy is the Deep One Bull - a monster you can fight in scenario 1 of the campaign.
Wreck of the Albatross is a fairly standard scenario that's primary mechanic doesn't quite work to be threatening - it might fit into an Innsmouth campaign, but it's not a great reason to check it out otherwise.
Rewards
Scenario Cost: 2 XP, or 0 XP as part of a The Innsmouth Conspiracy campaign
Potential XP Gain: 3 (locations) = 3 XP or 1 XP after cost, or 3 XP if part of a The Innsmouth Conspiracy campaign
In addition, on scenario success one investigator may choose to add the Hadal Trident to their deck. If you managed to recover the black key, in each scenario for the rest of the campaign, you may add 1i bless tokens to the chaos back whenever the act advanced.
